Mold testing and inspection in Hamburg, AR that answers a specific question

An inspection looks for growth and the moisture behind it. Sampling is added when results will change a decision, and the lab report is explained in plain language.

Inspection comes before sampling

Many callers ask for a mold test when what they need first is an inspection. A careful visual examination, combined with moisture readings and thermal imaging, finds most mold problems in Hamburg, AR homes. Our inspector checks areas where water collects or condensation forms: under sinks, around tubs and showers, behind appliances, in attics under roof penetrations, around windows, in crawl spaces and near HVAC equipment. Hidden moisture shows up on meters long before a wall stains.

The CDC does not recommend routine sampling to decide whether a home has a mold problem, because if growth is visible it should be removed regardless of the type. For that reason we never sell a lab test when an inspection has already answered the question. Sampling earns its place in specific situations.

When sampling makes sense

Testing is useful when there is a persistent musty odor but no visible source, when occupants have symptoms and want more information to share with a physician, when a buyer or seller needs documentation for a transaction, or when a property owner wants to confirm conditions after remediation. It can also help compare air inside a suspect room with air in an unaffected part of the home.

It is worth knowing the limits. The EPA states that there are no federal standards or threshold limit values for airborne mold or spores. Results are interpreted by comparison, most often against an outdoor sample taken the same day, and by looking at which types of spores appear indoors in higher proportion than outdoors.

Sampling methods we use

Air samples are collected with a calibrated pump that draws a measured volume of air through a spore trap cassette. The cassette captures particles that a laboratory then counts and identifies by genus or group. Surface samples use clear tape or a swab on a suspect area to show whether a stain is actual growth. When a wall cavity is suspected, a small port can be made to sample the air inside it.

Samples are sent under chain of custody to an independent laboratory accredited through the AIHA Environmental Microbiology Laboratory Accreditation Program. Typical turnaround is a few business days, with faster processing available from the lab at additional cost.

Your report

You receive a written report with photographs, moisture readings, sample locations and the laboratory data, along with an explanation of what the numbers do and do not show. If growth is confirmed, the report describes its location and approximate size so a plan can be built from it. Our Mold Remediation page explains what happens next when removal is needed.

From inspection clients

Comments from Hamburg, AR customers who used this service.

We had a musty smell in the hallway but nothing visible. The thermal camera found a cool, damp patch under the linen closet, and the air sample next to it confirmed elevated spores compared with outside.
Priya N.Homeowner, hallway odor
I was buying an older house and needed documentation for the negotiation. The report was clear and the inspector explained which findings mattered and which did not.

Testing and inspection questions

Do I need a test if I can already see mold?

Usually not. Visible growth should be removed whatever its species. An inspection is still valuable to measure the extent and find the moisture source.

Can a test tell me if my home is safe?

No test can declare a home safe, because there are no federal exposure limits for mold. Sampling shows how indoor conditions compare with outdoor air and where growth may be present.

Who analyzes the samples?

An independent laboratory accredited through the AIHA environmental microbiology program. We do not analyze our own samples.

What does the inspection cost?

Pricing depends on the size of the property and the number of samples. The inspection fee and any laboratory charges are quoted before your appointment is confirmed.
